The elderly are having lunch at Jinye nursing home in Dagzê District, Lhasa. The social security system known as “five major types of insurance” (endowment insurance, unemployment insurance, work-related injury insurance, medical insurance, and maternity insurance) is now in place and covers both urban and rural residents in Tibet.
In 2012, the elderly monks in the Sera Monastery in Lhasa received medical insurance cards.
The full coverage of the social security of the existing registered monks and nuns has been achieved in Tibet. A health checkup for the monks and nuns will be conducted every year and a health record will also be established.
